The NCHL Way – our hockey philosophy
Our hockey philosophy can be described in four words.
- Character
- Respect
- Maturity
- Integrity
Character – is about making the tough decisions, it is about seeing where your teammates may be stepping out of line and helping them out when needed. It is about being a leader within yourself and helping others be leaders as well. It is about taking a negative situation and turning it around into a positive one by making a tough choice of removing yourself out of the game or one of your teammates when things get too heated.
Respect – you can not demand it, you can not buy it but you can earn it by giving it to everyone on and off the ice. There is no need to swear at the ref or throw a temper tantrum. Do you really think people will respond to the one who is making demands? It takes respect not to hack or yap at your opponent and it takes respect to play the game with class.
Maturity – comes with experience and unfortunately in most cases age. It is a lot easier to get dragged down to someone’s level when they are making it easy for you to drop the gloves. What would that achieve in the game or in the real world? What will be proven by tripping a guy or slamming a player into the boards? Will the score at the end of the game matter or is it more important to enjoy each other’s company on the ice and in the dressing room? No one is heading to the NHL, that ship has sailed a long time ago for some and never has left the port for most. So why not apologize to your opponent you just tripped and help him get up so he can enjoy the game the same way you do?
Integrity – the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished. Being example on the ice, on the bench and in the dressing room will maintain the integrity of the hockey philosophy. It looks weak when you don’t walk the walk, when you give it to the refs and then turn around and tell the guys on the bench to cool it. Better yet do as I say not as I do, that must be the most hypocritical quote available. Think it, say it and live it or don’t. There is no middle ground.

Arenas, Time and Other Questions

What times will games start?
- Games start times will range between 9:15PM and 10:30PM
What days of the week will the games be on?
- We have ice on Sundays as a regular slot and a few random ones throughout the week, you could have a a game during any day of the week.
How many times a week will we play?
- Once on average
Which arenas will we be playing out of?
- Adams and Nicholas Sheran for now
What is the cost to play?
- Individual registration is 393+GST it includes two jerseys, home and away (6o value)
- If you register in a group of 3 or more players, each person gets a 50 buddy bonus and the fees are then 429+GST
Are you a goalie? – Make Sure Read This!
We are about to begin free agent registration for winter 2011-12 season in Lethbridge. While it is easier to place players onto teams, there are only a limited number of goalie spots.
If you are a goalie and you want to get on a team it is best to register and pay as soon as possible so that we can build a team around you and your skill level. For example, this summer season in Calgary we received many registrations from goal tenders online who chose to come in person to pay for their fees.
There were also others who paid online. We gave preference to the goalies who were fully paid online over the one’s coming in person. Most other goalies ended up without a team for the summer.
If you want to make sure you get on a team, register and pay online as soon as you can.
Freeagent Assignment – When Will I be placed on a team?
You will be placed on a team right before the start of the season, the week of October 2nd. The reason why we wait until this point is simple, we want to give everyone a shot at getting on a team so building the teams as late as possible allows for better placement of the team and creates better parity in the league.
Jerseys – Do I get one or two?
What is the deal with jerseys?
As part of your registration you are supplied with two numbered jerseys (60 value). You can choose the number by providing us with 3 choices on the registration form. We will try to assign one of those numbers to you if possible. This should be easy if we are building the team from scratch. However if we are assigning you to an existing team then it will depend on what numbers are available, we may need to assign a random number to you.
The jersey rule states that each team must have a home and away set, a light and a dark. Since you already have both jerseys you are good to go.
If you are placed on existing team your jersey will match one of the base colors for either a home or an away jersey. If you play on a new team we build, we will make sure everyone on the team has the same color jerseys. This new team will be assigned a second color.
